Heavy reduction Jade-Inset Gilt Box Ming Dynasty

Scholars and businessmen shared some of the same desires on their desks.  One of these necessities is a desk box for ones seals.  Seals were and are of the utmost importance. Historically a seal was used as a signature.  Depending on the type document, one might have several seals. The white/mutton fat color plaque attached on the top of the brass/bronze box was carved during the Ming Dynasty.  It depicts a man in a hat, elaborate woven knot, and a fruit plant.  The body of the box is finely engraved with swirling clouds, various symbols and figures and was created in the 18th/19th century. Total size is approximately 2 1/2" high x 3 1/2” wide x 2” deep.
